KeepSellGive Privacy Policy

The Short Version

KeepSellGive helps families organize their stuff. We collect only what's needed to make the app work, we never sell your data, and you can delete everything at any time. We take extra care because kids use this app.

What We Collect

Account Information

  • Parent email address (for login and account recovery)

  • Family nickname (optional — you choose what to call your family)

  • Zip code (optional — only used to suggest local donation options in future updates)

Kid Profiles

  • Display names or nicknames (we recommend nicknames, not real names)

  • Avatar selection (fun icons to represent each child)

  • A 4-digit PIN for each child (stored securely, never visible)

Item Information

  • Photos of items your kids catalog

  • Item titles, descriptions, and categories

  • Keep/Sell/Give choices and related details (room location, sale price, donation destination)

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Real names (we encourage nicknames)

  • Precise location or GPS data

  • Contacts, calendar, or data from other apps

  • Browsing history

  • Advertising identifiers

  • Any data beyond what you explicitly enter

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used to:

  • Let your family log in and access your Kidventory

  • Display items your kids have cataloged

  • Show parents an overview of all kids' inventories

  • Improve the app experience (we may analyze anonymous, aggregated patterns — never individual data)

We do NOT use your data to:

  • Show ads (there are no ads in KeepSellGive)

  • Build marketing profiles

  • Sell to third parties

  • Track your behavior outside the app

Helper Mode (Smart Image Recognition)

Helper Mode automatically suggests item names and descriptions from photos. When enabled, item photos are sent to a secure third-party service (OpenAI) for analysis.

Important:

  • Helper Mode is ON by default to make cataloging faster and easier

  • Kids can turn it off at any time using the toggle on the Snap screen

  • Parents can disable Helper Mode entirely for their family in Settings

  • Photos are processed and immediately discarded — they are not stored by the image recognition service

  • We never use the word "AI" with kids — they just see it as a helpful feature

Data Storage & Security

  • All data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted cloud database provider

  • Photos are stored in secure cloud storage accessible only to your family

  • Passwords are encrypted and never stored in plain text

  • Kid PINs are hashed — even we cannot see them

  • All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

KeepSellGive is designed for families with children. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):

  • Parental consent required: Only parents can create family accounts. During signup, parents confirm they are 18+ and the legal guardian of children who will use the app.

  • No data collection from children without parental involvement: Kids cannot create accounts independently. All accounts are set up and controlled by parents.

  • Minimal data collection: We collect only what's necessary for the app to function.

  • Parental access and control: Parents can view, edit, or delete any data in their family's account at any time.

  • No behavioral advertising: We do not show ads or build profiles on children.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Period.

We share data only with:

  • Supabase (database and authentication provider) — to store your account and item data securely

  • OpenAI (image recognition) — only when Helper Mode is used, and only the photo being analyzed (not stored)

  • Law enforcement — only if required by law

Your Rights & Controls

Parents can:

  • View all data in the family account

  • Edit or delete any item, photo, or kid profile

  • Disable Helper Mode for the entire family

  • Delete the entire family account and all associated data permanently

To delete all your data: Go to Parent Mode → Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete All My Data. You'll need to confirm your password. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Data Retention

  • Your data is kept as long as your account is active

  • If you delete your account, all data (including photos) is permanently deleted within 30 days

  • We do not keep backups of deleted data

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll notify you via the email associated with your account. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
